Disposition Primed for 2015 Victoria Handicap

March 31st, 2015

Perth raider Disposition was unlucky not to take his position in the featured Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) in early March, but is offered a good opportunity to return to the winner’s circle this weekend in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield.

Yet to finish outside the first three over seven competitive starts, Disposition began his racing career under the guidance of leading West Coast trainer Grant Williams before transferring to Wez Hunter’s Mornington stables prior to the Autumn Carnival.

Confident he is over the minor ailment that kept him from contesting the Australian Guineas, Hunter told AAP he is pleased with the condition of the Reset gelding and believes the conditions of the 2015 Victoria Handicap will play directly into his strengths this weekend.

“There’s no issues at all with where he took the skin off,” Hunter said.

“It’s all cleared up. His work has been good and he had a nice gallop on Saturday.

“I’ll try and take him to Caulfield on Tuesday for a gallop and then he’ll go to the Victoria Handicap.”

Debuting to racing for back-to-back victories in minor sprints during spring, Disposition made a successful transition to black type racing in taking out each of the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) and Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m).

Suffering his first racing defeat when second behind Rommel in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) on November 22nd, Disposition displayed an exceptional turn of foot to finish a close second to Moriarty and amongst open competition in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 6th.

Having placed an agonizingly close second to Wandjina in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) first-up this time, Disposition figured amongst a list of 30 nominations for the 2015 Victoria Handicap and is expected to be named in a capacity field of 16 on Wednesday.
